What documents should I give the driver?

LightSpeedBid keeps documentation simple. In most states, the only document you must provide the driver is the vehicle title, properly signed according to your state’s requirements. Sellers commonly search for documents needed to junk a car, what do I give the tow driver, or paperwork for cash for cars, and LightSpeedBid ensures the process is fast and clear.

Documents the driver may require depending on state law:

  1. The vehicle title (most common)
    The title must be:
  • In your name
  • Properly signed on the seller’s line
  • Free of liens (unless a lien release is included)

If your title has multiple owners listed, all owners may need to sign.

  1. Government issued ID
Some states require the seller to show identification. A driver’s license or state ID is sufficient.
  2. Lien release (if applicable)
If a lienholder once owned the vehicle, a lien release letter may be required to transfer ownership.
  3. Registration (sometimes optional)
Not required in most states, but helpful if the title is missing.
  4. Bill of sale
In a few states, the tow operator will prepare or help complete a bill of sale. LightSpeedBid buyers bring these forms.
  5. Insurance or emissions paperwork
Not required for the sale, but may be useful for your personal records.
  6. Keys
Keys are not required to sell the vehicle, but if you have them, the tow driver should receive them. If you lost the keys, LightSpeedBid still buys the car.

Documents you do not need:

  • Proof of insurance
  • Smog certificate
  • Maintenance records
  • Repair invoices
  • Service history
  • Registration stickers

LightSpeedBid makes paperwork painless. The driver guides you through all required signatures, confirms your documents, and ensures your ownership transfer is completed correctly so you can cancel insurance and close out registration fully.
